They couldn’t have said it better! I’ve admired this project – in all it’s understated glory – for quite some time now, so it makes sense to finally add it to the SI archives for future reference :) .

“For twenty years Hélène Binet has photographed contemporary architecture and co-operated world-wide with the most renowned architects such as David Chipperfield, Zaha Hadid, Coop Himmelblau, Daniel Libeskind, Sauerbruch Hutton and Peter Zumthor.

She expresses the uniqueness of architecture, lets light and shade take effect, seizes walls and openings, corners and curves, to express through the use of her camera a personal point of view.

Hélène Binet has co-operated for over 10 years with Peter Zumthor and photographically recorded and also artistically interpreted all of his buildings.”

Stunning collaboration between two Swiss masters of their respective crafts.
‘Photographs of the work of Peter Zumthor’ will be on show at the Gabrielle Ammann Gallery in Cologne, from September 4, 2009 to November 6, 2009.

Architecture Sadar Vuga Arhitekti

“The Chamber of Commerce and Industry, whose task is to promote the movement and flow of capital in the Republic of Slovenia, is conceived as a “megastore”. Project attempts explicitly to do away with any barriers between the public, semi-public and private features which are all present in this hybrid design.
By retaining the huge public forecourt, the programme along the existing building is verticalized, thus giving it a new façade, designed like boxes piled on top of each other.”

Beautiful, forward-thinking architecture from the late 90′s popularised by a certain book designed by you know who.

Design Zaha Hadid

“The ‘Mind Zone’ — one of fourteen individual exhibition spaces within the Millennium Dome — was inspired by the structural complexity of the human mind. It consists of three overlapping volumes, which unfold to create a continuous surface that can be floor wall or ceiling to allow for a fluid perception of space.
As a narrative strategy, the three elements complement the primary mental functions; “input”, “process”, and “output” represented variously through the distortion of perspective, educational exhibits, sculpture, computers, audiovisual installations and interactive elements.”

Who remembers the “failure” that was the Millenium Experience? I certainly do, because I spent a day there and subsequently enjoyed the experience so to speak. It’s just a shame that I wasn’t really into Zaha Hadid at the time because if the exhibition was still running today, I probably would have spent more time looking at exterior of the “Mind Zone” than the interior itself!
