Born in New Zealand, Chris Sisarich has long been a location specialist. His cinematic style and acute sense of light and environment play a strong hand in his automotive, landscape and lifestyle portfolios.

Lauded by clients for his down-to-earth “can do” approach, Chris’ relaxed manner belies his rigorous attention to detail and commitment to realising perfect shots. It has been said that if there is one attribute that sets him apart in his field, it is his unerring ability to produce images without waste. All elements, even those that appear raw or spontaneous, meld seamlessly into a single cohesively memorable composition that never fails to draw the viewer’s unwavering attention to the core subject.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve featured a generous selection of stunning photography on SI (4 months in fact) so you know I had to come back with a bang so to speak ;) Satoshi Minakawa is a name that may not sound familiar to some of you, but is definitely one to watch. Having already built an excellent reputation in Japan, he is now based in London where his mix of landscape and concept photography have been extremely well received.

Before long we were looking at random pictures of cats in spacesuits and laughed at how striking a massive billboard would look, and that was the beginning! We soon set about making it a reality, the label hired a real space suit from the US, Richard designed flags and badges to complete the picture. All that was left was to get Jamie’s cat in the spotlight and hope he was up to the task….
Mr. Mads Perch, a Danish born London based photographer, just so happens to be a self-confessed fan of SI, so obviously I had to showcase his crisp, understated photography on the site one way or another. Whilst I was busy prepping his debut feature for SI, a certain Richard Robinson (art director & designer for small record labels such as Polydor and Island amongst others) gets in touch about his newly launched website and seeing as these two gentlemen have collaborated many times in the past, I felt it made sense to do SI’s first ever double feature. Enjoy!

Thank you once again to Mads and Richard for the nice big images, info and for supporting SeptemberIndustry. Legends, the both of you ;)

Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo
Photography Thomas Birke

The story behind the 6th image down (taken in Seoul) is particularly interesting:

“My last shot from Inwangsan. I am still angry when I see the image! The light was perfect, the air as well and the next shot would have been to the right, with Myeng-Dong and the Ingwansan – which is one of the most iconic views in Seoul. I still feel it would have been one of my few masterpieces.

BUT – unfortunately there are several military posts on every mountain in seoul, and they made it absolutely clear that I am not allowed to shoot and had to pack instantly. I tried to discuss and let them explain why, but they hardly spoke any english.”

This chap’s work is just epic in every sense of the word! Clearly a lot of love, (exposure) time and energy (carrying his 25kg P2 Sinar) goes into each carefully composed shot and it shows. I definitely recommend you check out his frequently updated Flickr where you can view his work even larger than you see here.

“The question is, what gives Stas M reason to shoot these images? Do they or do they not speak for themselves? Are our imaginations deeper than Stas M’s? It can be observed and said of the photographs that they are particularly, specifically chosen for their geometric appeal… the arrangement of shapes and shades along with shooting in a cold lighting. Although enjoyable in that the toning is unique, I feel something here is chilly and traced over with the blues.”

Stanislav Markov (Garmonique) is a 24 year old photographer from Moscow whom I recently discovered on Flickr – his work demonstrates immaculate composition, great tones, lines and texture and you get a real sense of atmosphere from his images. Suffice to say, the moment I stumbled across his Flickr account, I knew I had to feature this rather enigmatic gentleman on SI.

Shufti 7 – An Icelandic Tale, is a Vast designed publication. Shot on location in Iceland, the story centres around a traditional Icelandic fairy tale. Gloriously atmospheric photography produced in a large format is supported with hand drawn illustrations reproduced on short page sections. Hand sewn and finished with a foiled front cover.

Now on Issue 8, Shufti showcases some of the best international fashion photographers and illustrators combined with lavish production and print techniques. To view the full back catalogue of Shufti visit shuftimag.com

Yorkshire Events – Corporate Brochure
Yorkshire Events promotes Yorkshire as a region and as a prime location to hold major UK and international events. The key target audience include sporting and cultural bodies and the media.

The main objective for the brochure was to promote Yorkshire as ‘the’ location for international sporting and cultural events. The brochure needed to reflect the quality, expression, innovation and credibility of the region to an international audience. Commissioned photography featuring local athletes were retouched into a series of dynamic images with light tracers to convey the movement. The brochure was printed with fluorescent inks and included UV varnishes to the image sections. An embossed slip case constructed from glow-edged PVC completed the job.

Hard to believe that it’s been almost 2 years since I last featured Vast on SI – time flies! Nonetheless, I recently discovered that they were due to update their website and whilst they did include thumbnail teaser images on their site, I wasn’t having any of it! ;) So I got in touch with the kind gentlemen at Vast who were gracious enough to supply some hi-res imagery for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy :)

“Frederik Lieberath is without any doubt one of the world’s leading still-life photographers – a true master of light, composition, and all technical and artistic aspects of photography at the very highest achievable level. When you see Frederik’s images, you frequently find yourself not only marvelling over their amazing beauty, but also asking yourself how in the world he was ever able to do that.”

A fitting explanation for a very talented photographer and all this time I thought
the images on Apple’s packaging was computer generated!
