‘Pulp–Paper’ Book
Design KentLyons

A joint collaboration with KentLyons, Generation Press and GF Smith, Pulp–Paper serves as marker in time for how we view paper now, as a document of how paper is made, and as an artifact that captures the beauty and emotive qualities of paper as a material. What started as a request to GF Smith to find out how paper was made soon grew in to a discussion about the role of paper, and why despite the advances of technology, we are still in love with it as a medium. A pulp sheet front cover and a 700gsm Pristine White Colorplan sheet on the reverse represent the start and end of the paper making process. The book features commentary from Adrian Shaugnhessy, Patrick Burgoyne, Caroline Clarke from Lovelyasatree.com, Vince Frost, Bruno Maag, Jason Smith and Alan Kitching.

KentLyons have always done interesting things with print so it’s nice to see they’ve outdone themselves this time with their self-initiated ‘Pulp–Paper’ book which uses a variety of different stocks and finishes to explore the production of paper and gauge what paper means to people within the design industry.

Thanks again to Noel and Nickie @KentLyons for making this post happen.

  1. Superb – we need reminders like this! I’m all for promoting paper now that everything seems to be shifting to digital.

Paper companies always warrant the most creative work by nature, and this is no exception. The Pulp-Pristine white is an excellent way of communicating concepts with simply the substrate, as opposed to using them in an arbitrary way.

Also what font is that for the title. Anyone know? Nice1.
