Photography Lee Funnell
0029 – ABB
This shot of a ‘switch’ was taken in a basement somewhere in Coburg, Germany for their annual report.
This is what Lee had to say about it recently…
“This was another lovely project for me that involved a lot of travelling around Europe, visiting factories to shoot industrial machinery. I was flown out to Germany to take a shot of a switch, which seemed a bit over the top to me but hey! On arrival, the guide showed me to a room where we both looked at each other blankly. ‘So where’s the switch?’ I asked. He said, in his German accent, ‘Dis is it’.”
0199 – Akzo Nobel
As part of their recent global rebranding, Akzo Nobel unlocked the sort of places Lee loves to shoot; ubiquitous factories, chemical works and offices as well as some pretty cool technology and R&D labs. This alternative Grand Tour of Europe was worth every Euro, with 800 new additions to Akzo’s image library.
The re-branding implementation was headed up by Angus Hyland at Pentagram who commissioned Lee.
This shot was actually taken in a factory just outside Barcelona, Spain which manufactures specialised paints and coatings for cars, aeroplanes, etc.
Lee Funnell started out as graphic designer before taking up photography professionally and has always enjoyed a rewarding relationship with the graphic design community. She has worked with a huge number of designers over the years from one-man-bands to multinationals both here in the UK and abroad.
