Design Modern Publicity

“Corporate identity for current affairs, business, culture and design media brand Monocle founded by Tyler Brûlé.”

Last week on SeptemberIndustry I featured the work of founding Art Director of Monocle, Ken Leung, which consequently received a lot of love from SI readers and for good reason! Unfortunately the website for Modern Publicity, his London-based design consultancy hadn’t gone live and as is tradition, I think we all were expecting his website to remain “blank” or “coming soon” for quite some time. That is until I received word yesterday that Modern Publicity had in fact gone live…

Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section below… ;)

    Excruciatingly good!

  2. Everything Tyler Brûlé touches seems to come out better than perfect and it looks like his touch has rubbed off on Ken.

  3. Luke

Fantastic work — but not impressed with the website!

These guys seem to have struggled with the transition from print to screen…

If they had approached their website in the same way they approached the printed stuff they could’ve produced something really sensational

The Monocle work is one of my favourite examples of design ever, it’s even made a successful transition from print to screen!

  4. Tomi

    LOVE THE WORK!!!!

Did Ken Leung work at Winkreative also? Cause they share some projects.

  5. @Tomi Yes he’s worked there, for some time when monocle has started.
Corporate identity work for Monocle is perfect (magazine is also perfect btw) and I don’t know if I should admiring or be immensely jealous of their skills and brains;]

@Neil True, but I’m sure Ken played a significant part in crafting the look of Monocle as much as Mr. Brûlé, otherwise this would have been be a Winkreative project and not a Modern Publicity one!

@Luke Each to their own – but I can see where you are coming from ;) I think what Ken was looking for here was a simple, honest website that didn’t overshadow the quality of the work – more emphasis on the images and less on the surrounding elements – textual or otherwise.

  7. David

@Jarek A bit of both in equal measure. The attention to detail in all facets of the brand really is impeccable!

  8. @David Yes, I think Tyler and Ken have some kind of pact with a devil or something, because their works are too good to be true :P

  9. co-sign what D said.

  10. Some lovely work, I think the Nordic News Network ident is my favourite.

The website leaves a lot to be desired though, classic print-designers-failing-at-www
