Nike V-Series Communications
Design Spin
“The V-Series range was originally released by Nike in the 1980′s as a ‘technologically advanced running shoe’. Spin, was invited by the sportswear giant to make ‘appropriate promotional materials to support its re-release’.
Rather than produce the traditional brochure, Spin produced a dynamic piece of communication that was placed in stores and retail outlets, to be picked up the public. Tony Brook describes their thinking: ‘The folding continuos data paper and the ASCII art translations/illustrations of the shoes were used to reflect the technology of the era when the shoes were originally released.’”
I’ve had this classic piece of Spin work amongst other things sitting on my hard drive for quite some time now, so in the spirit of nostalgia, I decided to feature it on SI because at the end of the day, why should old work be seen once and never seen again? – I’d much rather preserve it online so that it can be seen by anyone anywhere in the world.
Keep your eyes peeled for more good stuff from the last decade making its way onto SI in the coming weeks and maybe even some work from North…
