A good friend of mine from Tokyo was in town the other day and he happened to have a copy of the 2005 D&AD Annual with him. My initial reaction was of sheer awe; the kind of awe many of us felt when we managed to procure our first “top-shelf magazine” as teenagers ;) . Nevertheless, I devised a plan to get him as drunk as a sailor and in the process get him to agree to give up his personal copy of the annual. What I didn’t realise was that after 30 or so shots I had completely lost my inhibitions and was on the verge of passing out, whereas he was drinking each shot as if it were a glass of honey and lemon! Suffice to say, the plan tragically backfired and will not be attempted again unless I am sure that I can outdrink my opponent!
Pictured is the 2005 D&AD Annual designed by Spin, which comes wrapped in a poster photographed by Lee Mawdsley.
