For those of you that have been living under a rock these last couple of days – I certainly have coding Friday’s gargantuan feature ;) – Mr. Xavier Encinas has updated his portfolio with a tasty selection of new work, photographed and presented with the same level of care and consideration that goes into all his projects. Nice :)

Thanks again to Xavier for providing the images for this feature.

    Lovely work here.

  3. The simplicity of Mr. Encinas’s work is always wonderful. Great work.

  4. Marc

Is that Souvenir on the James Moes identity?

  5. Joe

I agree what you were saying about the palette, really elegant, simple and refined work.

  6. David

@Marc – I’m not entirely sure myself. Will have to wait for Mr. Encinas to confirm. Hang in there :)

  7. Marc, It’s Cooper Light.

  8. Stoo

Now we’re talking. This is beautiful. I’ve been a fan of Xavier’s work for a while now and he is consistently brilliant. I’m practically drooling over this. This is what we expect from September Industry not work from Because Studio, which looks positively student-like in comparison.

@Stoo Xavier has certainly come a long way since his days as Rumbero design :)

Regarding your comment on Loz’s work:
“Graphic Design is subjective – one persons art is another persons garbage”

  10. @David well said. Mature response to @Stoo

Great stuff. I would love to hear the inspiration behind the JM photography stuff.

  11. @Stoo @David – Thanks guys. The Rumbero’s years seems far behind now :)

@Jonathan – The inspiration for the James Moes identity and stationery comes from different level. James and I had long conversations about his inspirations and what drives his photography. The following keywords came out: Simplicity, Modern, Architecture, Wood.

For the identity itself I chose a typeface (Cooper Light, recommended by Mr. Build) that is classic but yet elegant. We talk a lot about my own stationery that he liked very much. Something that can stay around for years in terms of information, so we only put 3 key information: Name, email, phone.
He wanted something to illustrate the modernity of his work but also his love for minimal modern architecture. The 3D triangle shape felt appropriate for its meaning but also, let’s say it, because it’s kind of a “trendy” these days. :-)

For the stationery itself, we chose High-end Japanese Paper (TAKEO) 540gsm in 3 colors (Camel, Light Grey and Dark Grey). This paper is truly amazing. Never saw an uncoated paper of this quality and refinement. We printed with a gold foil stamping.
For both letterhead and wrapping we chose a Spendorgel Avario 80gms with a Metallic Gold PMS 871 U.

James wanted a complete stationery but not conventional. Because we had to buy a minimum quantity for the TAKEO paper, and also knowing James send 6×4′ images to his clients, we used the extra paper (after printing the business cards) to make a 6×4′ card that he can stack on top of the printed pictures and then wrap it with the paper.

Specifically for letterhead James wanted something that he can use everyday, not only for work purposes (a not to his wife on the fridge…), so a 6×4′ loose notepad sheet was the perfect fit. Just with his initials (Foil Stamped).

Of course all this work wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of my printer, Atelier André. A true master.

Voila, I think you know the whole story :-)

Inspiring work here. I am really curious to know what face was paired with tungsten for Under The Influence.
